Maybe I'm Amazed/Paul McCartney
Something
What It Takes
This is lyrically one of the best written songs I've ever heard (or read!).  The words
flow together and they are almost poetic in true form.  What I like about it is that
some of the lines really make you think about yourself and your own honesty level.
To say things like "everyone is so untrue" and "if you look for truthfulness, you
might just as well be blind" can be bold and unsettling, but maybe all too true at
the same time.  That's what makes this writing style so effective.
Billy Joel uses his unbelievable talent to craft a song based around a word that is
used often, but how much is it really meant?  Take a look at the way he starts the
verses.  He uses words like "If" and "When".  Using words like that automatically
spark interest, so they are great verse starters.  In the chorus, he uses the word
"lonely" to describe a word, giving us a whole new way to look at "honesty" itself.
